Asdrubal Cabrera is entering his 15th year of being a part of Major League Baseball, as the 35 year old was called up at age 21 for the first place Cleveland Indians of 2007. Cabrera has been a .268/.330/.426 hitter for his career, with an above average .756 OPS for his career. In the last two seasons for the Texas Rangers and Washington Nationals, Cabrera has posted a .768 OPS and has not seen his production as a run producer decrease, totaling 122 runs driven in between 2019 and a shortened 2020. Add that together with an above average Exit Velocity in the last three seasons, and above average walk rates in the last two seasons, you have a great addition to any team, and shouldn’t cost your franchise much in signing him.
On top of his offensive ability, Cabrera has been an outstanding fielder for his career, while never taking home a single gold glove, even from his slick shortstop days with Cleveland back in the 2009-2013 stretch. Cabrera brings with him the ability to play multiple positions on the infield, seeing time with the Nationals at third, second and first, and in the process, ranking 27th among all fielders in 2020 with 4 Outs Above Average. Advanced fielding on the other hand is a much different story, as DRS and UZR do not favor him one bit at any position, DRS has him at -71 DRS for his career, which likely stomped any chance of him ever taking any fielding awards home.
Cabrera brings a veteran presence, postseason experience, and versatility to whatever team decides to sign him this offseason.
