Free Agent Profile & Prediction #27: Todd Frazier

NEW YORK, NEW YORK – APRIL 23: Todd Frazier #21 of the New York Mets celebrates after he hit a grand slam in the fifth inning against the Philadelphia Phillies at Citi Field on April 23, 2019 in the Flushing neighborhood of the Queens borough of New York City. (Photo by Elsa/Getty Images)

Back to back guys who look and sound like they belong on the Jersey Shore getting in fights over half a pastrami sandwich. Todd Frazier has long time been considered a fan favorite regardless of where he goes, whether it was his 5 great seasons in Cincinnati, half of a season with both the White Sox, Yankees and Rangers, or his two and a half with the New York Mets. During his time as a Major Leaguer, Frazier has posted a career .242/.319/.448 slash with a .767 OPS and 108 OPS+. For his entire career, he has been an above average player, who doesn’t reach base at a high clip, but makes up for it with the power in his bat. Entering his age 35 season, Frazier’s power hasnt seen much of a drop off in the last couple seasons as he entered his mid 30’s, posting a 21 home run season in 2019, and seeing his power drop in 2020, in a shortened season in Texas and once again with the Mets.

Frazier, who is described as a first baseman on every website going into free agency, but probably is better suited for a corner infielder, and DH type build, and be able to rotate between third and first base and would be a bonus if its on a AL team so he has the ability to DH. For his career, Frazier has been a below average defender at first base in his career, racking up -7 DRS with a -5.4 UZR for his career at the position. On the other hand, it is obvious that Frazier is much more comfortable at the position he came up playing in Cincinnati at third, as he has put together 20 DRS for his career at third, and actually gotten better in his older years, posting 9 DRS over his last four seasons combined.

Frazier comes into what ever team signs him, as a player who still has a good amount of value, and would benefit from going to a place that will give him the chance to play every day.

These are the teams I believe are in contention for Frazier: Pittsburgh Pirates, Seattle Mariners, Texas Rangers, New York Mets, Washington Nationals, Blue Jays

Final Landing Spot Prediction: Todd Frazier signs a 1yr/5 million dollar deal with the Toronto Blue Jays

2021 Stat Line Prediction: .238/.309/.439 .748 OPS 10 HR 39 RBI
